Last Project Part 1

So as a going away gift to the Social Centers I have been finishing & fixing up the last items left undone from when these Centers where started back in 2005.

One last simple easy to do list:

Fixing the Ward 2 (The Art Class Center) septic system. It has been left unfinished which prevents the toilets from working.

So today they started working on it. (This white pipe is where the crap will flow out of building into the tan k)

To describe what your seeing here. Basically the septic system is self contained (ie is not connected to a public sewer system). The toilets when they flush dump their contents into this septic tank, which of course since it is unfinished doesn't currently work. So these two holes will be finished & covered, so that when they are both full the Town will then have a truck come pump out the contents. Not nearly as exciting or involving as the last two projects.

Also on the list of fix it ups is plastering the kitchen & fixing the swing sets.

So I had asked the Town Council to recommend someone who knew how to fix this properly.
And before you continue reading check out this blog entry and the 3rd full paragraph. http://swazilandreflections.blogspot.com/2012/07/art-classes-painting-part-8-friday-july.html

Ok, so back to the story if you haven't read that one it won't be as entertaining.

So when the guy the Town Council recommends shows up it is the guy who I fired for lateness. So standing in the Town Council, I tell the story of how late he was & how he lied. But I ask him directly if he thinks he learned a lesson and can he do the job. As others laughed he said he could. So we went to the Social Center so he could give me an estimate on supplies needed, time frame, costs, etc. At this point I have gotten so used to buying construction items & know the hardware stores in town so well it is actually routine.

Well, today he was early because when I arrived with the supplies just before 9am, which was the start time, he & assistant were already cleaning out the tanks of the 6 years of crap (not literal crap, YET).

So I am giving him a second chance, I certainly don't have much faith in him, but he does know what he is doing. And I have pointed out him that it was the combination of lateness & lying that lost him the previous job. So he should not do either of those this time around or he will be replaced.

So this time around he has to tell me when he is coming & what he is doing. Well, he has already misjudged how many cinder blocks he is going to need. Original order 30 which I picked now he needs another 37. We will see how well this turns out over the next couple of days. At the least its pretty simple work just hard, dirty & time consuming.
