Social Center Part 11 (Let There be Light)

Ok, as the day draws closer to the arrival of the doors and windows from the NTC. And at almost one month of construction.

WE TURNED ON THE LIGHTS.

Yep, every light switch and bulb worked. The exterior ones, the bathroom ones, the spare room and the uncompleted rooms all worked.

Now granted this was just a test based off some lucky timing. But it was EXCITING.

We had one window that needed burglar bars installed so the welder we hired borrowed several extension cords so power could be borrowed from the nearest building to run his welding torch, the electricians were literally putting the final touches on the last lights, so they worked a way to connect the two. And the building lit up and so did I.

It was EXCITING.




And the man who has installed most of it: China, who by the way doesn't like rice. He has done a great job, plus he is a town council employee so the partnership was working by them assigning him to work with us. The agreement we provided lunch. Saving lots of money.




Also another reason the welder was there for the day was to fix a busted swing set. The Center has the potential to allow 6 children to swing on these sets but they don't have seats, busted chains or the pole busted and it was one way that represented the neglect the center had received over the years of not being finished and nothing happening. And seeing that swing set fixed (no seats yet) just filled my heart today cause soon pre-school children be swinging on those and just having a grand old time. Instead of using trees and rocks (which are entertaining in themselves)


This photo taken in Dec 2010 shows the busted pole and that a seat for the swing was still there and has been lost since then. And will be fixed again.

Less entertaining but one of the first noticeable changes to the exterior of the front of the building was the fixing of the front door step.
