Went to the Sislawane Reed Dance, the local version of last Weekend’s official Holiday. Look up the Reed Dance on Google for more on the whole event.
Probably about a thousand maidens (women or girls without children) dressed in traditional clothing styles which is mostly topless, with skirt, Reed cutting knife (often times real but most were created for the event as symbols) or spears. The older the girl/woman the clothing more she wears, the thinking is that young girls have less to hide. Basically, they parade singing and dancing before the King & Queen Mother (the King's actual mother, not a Queen). There were many 10 white people there.
Not quite sure the actual reason for the whole ceremony but it was entertaining to watch. Apparently, tomorrow there is more dancing, including the King dancing. And constant singing the entire time.
It was very cold probably in the high 40's, low 50's with some rain drizzling, I was wearing both my North Face jackets zipped together (another excellent packing choice, Thanks MOM) plus gloves. Most of the women had lots of skin exposed but even though they were cold. They were very much having fun.
And as a side note, I pretty much saw every type of breast possible, and have to say that I really prefer A or B's.
And didn’t even realize that it was Sept 11th until I wrote this.
